District Safety Reporting Scheme

It’s fair to say, you cannot make every mistake yourself, so why not learn from others that have made a mistake you haven’t and use their experience to give you the tools to avoid making that same mistake. Our reporting scheme is about sharing experiences, it’s not about apportioning blame or pointing fingers.

Our reporting scheme, which is voluntary, allows individuals or Groups to report any accident, incident or near-miss to a central point within District.  Any submission is then anonymised and posted on a District website page, located in the Adult Volunteers section, so behind a password, and not visible to the general public, as a means of highlighting potential issues in your own Group

This aim of this scheme is education. As the lead paragraph states, you can’t make every mistake yourself, so learn from others. Share your experience, so other may learn. It may stop an injury, or save disappointing Young People, and it is does have potential to save a life!

However, our scheme DOES NOT replace the national Scout Association accident/incident reporting scheme. You must still complete and submit those mandatory reports yourself, but please submit a version of that report to us too. This is scheme is supplementary to the National Scheme, as currently their reports rarely see the light of day after submission.

Please ensure that others involved any incident agree to the submission of any report.

What to send. Anything you feel worthy of note. Things that went wrong, times that people were injured, or nearly injured. Times that equipment broke, or just items that you feel others could learn from. Anything!  If you are unsure if it is worthy of inclusion, send it anyway. And pictures of the item under discussion are always welcome.

How to submit your report …. e-mail or web page submission ideally but happy to receive a report by mail, telephone, text, carrier pigeon or pony express, anyway you like, I don’t mind, just send it in.

As a preference, e-mails or web submission please, as I can cut and paste but I am happy to type it out if it means that you submit an incident.

Where to send it. Either use the reporting page on this website or email the submission to Safety.SeftonNorth@gmail.com

Alternatively, once complete post the report to the address shown on the form or call 0791 719 2833

The e-mail address above is only ever read by me, and all identification is removed from the text transcribed into the safety post, so your report is anonymous.
